Cretin was originally constructed as the South Student Residence Building for the Saint Paul Seminary in 1894. It was designed by architect Cass Gilbert, who also designed Cretin's two sister buildings, Loras Hall and Grace Hall. During their period Meganapuram was full of Palmyra trees, thorny bushes and castor plants. Mrs. Mary Thomas took efforts to remove the thorny bushes and made it as an oasis. As a missionary he loved the people of Megnanapuram and wanted to uplift the downtrodden and the needy. So he and his wife decided to construct schools for the children. In 1842 Elliot Tuxford Girls Schools was established. In 1844, he started a boarding school for boys. So many children are benefitted by these schools and they are flying over the world an different colors.
