We provide engaging math programs to U.S. middle school students of all ability levels to build confidence and improve attitudes towards math and problem solving.

A national middle school mathematics competition that builds problem solving skills and fosters achievement through four levels of fun, in-person 'bee' style contests. In response to COVID-19 this year, there will be more contests and they will be held online.

A national middle school mathematics enrichment program that gives educators the resources and guidance needed to run math clubs in schools and other groups.

A national middle school contest that blends math, creativity, art and technology and challenges students to produce a video solving a math problem in a real-world setting.

The following problems deal with logic. There are multiple ways to solve these problems, and for some of
them, there may be more than one right answer. As long as your logic is accurate, alternate solutions are acceptable.

Description

MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment and competition program for middle school students designed to challenge and motivate students to develop strong math skills in preparation for the MATHCOUNTS competition. This class will cover much of the material needed for success at State and National MATHCOUNTS. Students who take this course will be encouraged to register with their home school to compete either as individuals or as part of their school's team in the MATHCOUNTS competition.

This course includes notes, practice problems, assessments, and videos for each topic covered to allow students to learn and review both the material and problem-solving skills. Videos are provided by Art of Problem Solving. As students progress through the course, they will complete free response questions and timed practice exams to help them build experience using strategies that will be useful for real competitions.

Each student is assigned to a CTY instructor to support them and give feedback during their course. Students can contact their instructor via email with any questions or concerns at any time. Live one-on-one online sessions can also be scheduled to prepare for the graded assessments, which include homework, quizzes, and a cumulative final exam. In addition, there are weekly group strategy sessions run by an instructor, where students will learn together.

The weekly strategy session will be held online every Tuesday evening from 8 - 9 p.m. (EST). Attendance is optional and all sessions are recorded so students can watch them at a later time. Instructions and details are posted on the course website for enrolled students.

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with MATHCOUNTS® competition problems and to assist them in applying efficient problem solving strategies while tackling any level problem. This will be done by exposing students to a wide array of MATHCOUNTS® competition questions and involving students in interactive group sessions with the course instructor, whereby students will be introduced to competitive math problem solving strategies. Zoom online virtual classroom
This course uses an online virtual classroom which can be used for instructor-student communication if the student has any questions about the course or curriculum. The classroom works on standard computers with the Zoom desktop client and also tablets or handhelds that support the Zoom Mobile app. Students will need a computer with the Zoom desktop client installed to watch any recorded meetings. The Zoom desktop client and Zoom Mobile App are both available for free download.
